Just a bit of fun for those who are bored.

Design your own music festival!

You'll need:
-a name for the festival
-a headline act/s
-other bands (be realistic)
-to specify how many stages you'd use
-to specify how long each band will play for and when it will start (allow atleast 30mins between bands)

PRICING PLAN
Budget of $10million, following Kvltism pricing form

http://degy.com/Avails%20for%202009%20-%20Updated%2006.05.09.pdf

Seen we have 10million to spend use the higher figure, so Aerosmith go for 500,000 to 1million, so you have to use the 1million.

If a band isn't on the list then relate them to a similar band, for example... I couldn't find AC/DC on the list but guessing they would go for about $1mil as big bands like Aerosmith go for about that. (unsure what bands are similar to the band you want just ask)

Bands that would have to reform for the festival add on 20%, so Led Zeppelin (not on the list) would go for about $1millon add on 20% giving you a total price of $1,200,000.

According to the pricing lists you can get OPM to come play Heaven is a Halfpipe and only pay them a $2000

All of your normal Aussie and Kiwi bands Silverchair, Powderfinger, Shihad etc. price at $10,000

Make sense?

Will have Core, Punk, Metal, Indie, Electro and maybe Rock stages.

Include broken up bands?

Hmm next study break I take, I will do this. Naming it will be fun. I'd say Punk, Rock, Chillout, Hip Hop and probably a Hardcore stage.

Is there a limit on how many bands we can have? Also is it like the big European festivals how it goes over 3 days?

na mate, can go as long as you want with as many bands. Just make it realistic as possible, 3 days is probably the longest.

While snooping around the interbutts a while back, I found this handy little booking list. Should give folks a more reasonable idea when chalking up their lineups.

actually what sort of budget would a festival like Glasto or Isle of Wight have? I'd try to use something like that.

I've been involved in a thread like this before. The rules we had were:

- A maximum of 60 acts.
- Budget: $5-7,000,000.
- Intervals of 20-30 minutes between acts, unless stages are paired together.

A fair few of the artists in that list require you to contact their booking agent for a price. From memory, Busy P mentioned in 2007 that Daft Punk's fee was $1,000,000+/show.

I'd consider having them but they'd need to play a set of 6 hours + haha

I'd see them as someone you could book for a 90-100 minute set headlining a main stage, no fuss. There are a fair few good options you could lock in to headline smaller stages at a (in comparison) bargain price.

Mine is a answer to the Big Day out which is more a shit day out these days apart from an odd few acts. 4 stages, headliners on the rick and metal get 90mins, everyone else gets a full hour apart from a couple the early punk and core bands(generally shorter sets anyway). Festivals to often have great bands playing for nowhere near long enough. I’d way rather see few great bands rather than packing all these shit ones in as short as possible.

The Better Day Out 2010

Metal stage

Machine head 9-30-11
Trivium 8-9
Mastodon 6.30-7.30
Slayer 5-6
Dream theatre 3.30-4.30
In Flames 2-3
Bullet for my valentine 12.30-1.30

Rock stage
Foo Fighters 9-30-11
Faith No more 8-9
Stone temple pilots 6.30-7.30
The Gaslight Anthem 5-6
Clutch 3.30-4.30
Tomahawk (mike patton can double up) 2-3
Dinosaur Jr 12.30-1.30

Punk stage

Dropkicks 10-11
Rise against 8.30-9.30
Social distortion 7-8
Against me 5.30-6.30
Bouncing souls 4-5
Hot water music 2.30-3.30
The Bronx 1.15-2
Street dogs 12-12.45

Core stage
Alexisonfire 10-11
Sick of it all 8.30-9.30
Verse (get them to reform) 7-8
Have heart (get them to reform) 5.30-6.30
Cancer Bats 4-5
The ghost of a thousand 2.30-3.30
D.R.I. 1.15-2
Every Time I die 12-12.45

Didn’t add up the cost but I reckon it would come in well under budget as its only running one day and 4 stages, this enables the quality of each genre to be higher. Without doubt the rock stage would be most expensive to run, with core and punk costing peanuts. Ha its pretty much just my ultimate line up minus a few. Be an ultimate day out though…..for me anyway
