Hell yes. This guy was such an unselfish player, willing to do the dirty work and just chip away at the psych of the player he matched up on (which in this era there were a LOT of superstar centers and power forwards). He didn't get caught up in all the hype that goes with being champs, he was happy to just be champs, put his differences with coaches and teammates aside (he and Scottie Pippen supposedly HATED each other).
His recbounding skills were crazy, he was a workhorse, people say we'll never see another player like MJ, and we won't, but we'll never see another player like the Worm either. He stood out. He had an incredibly strong mental game, specialising in getting inside the heads of his matchups.
Never was this more evident than in the 1996 Finals (esp game 6, where he drove Shawn Kemp crazy) and in 1998 where he screwed with Karl Malone's head all series to the point where Malone's first reaction on receiving that ball in the post towards the end of game 6 was to turn his head left to see where Dennis was. MJ came round the other side, took the ball, and the rest is history.
A "bit" of a quirky personality plus some behavioural issues is what I believe is stalling the Hall from inducting him, some are unsure he is the type they want representing the sport.
But to me, the defense, rebounding genius and most of all the rings speak for themselves. Rodman should have been inducted already IMO. Rodman didn't jsut grab a few more rebounds than the average, he plucked fricking HEAPS. He made positioning, blocking out, and rebounding an art form, a specialty and a huge contributor to three straight titles. No way the Bulls win titles 1996-1998 without Rodman. Maybe one, certainly not all three.
Just a pretty strange tidbit:
I remember reading something about a tendency Rodman had, that if he was going to match up on a guy he particularly disliked, he would neglect to shower for a few days, then just before tipoff reach down and get a bit of between the leg/ball sweat and on one of the first plays of the game, "accidentally" hit that guy and rub him right below the nose with those fingers to throw him off his game.
An interesting character to say the least is Old Dennis.
