Somehow, after 10 seasons of unforgettable action, we've narrowed the search for the game's top performer of the decade down to 10. Just.

To give you an idea of the quality in the running for this honour, here's a few that didn't make it.

Matthew Lloyd kicked more goals from 2000-2009 than any other player in the competition, but we couldn't sneak him in. Gary Ablett made a late charge, but his past three seasons of scintillating performances only left him on the fringes.

The unluckiest casualty, however, was Mark Ricciuto. The Adelaide Crows star was the last culled. Others who can consider themselves stiff are Andrew McLeod, Dustin Fletcher, Matthew Pavlich, Brad Johnson, Shane Crawford, Nick Riewoldt and Matthew Richardson.

But, it's hard to find a spot when you see the star quality we've got.

Voss ahead of Goodes.

Judd was consistently the best this decade, followed by Black, Buckley and Voss.

Juddy! And then followed by Voss no doubt.

I personally dont thinK Johno Brown should be in there.

He is one of my fav players, but i defenately think Mark Riccuito should be ahead of him, Roo was an absolute champ and a freak, a top notch leader too (not to say Browny isnt). I may be biased, but i reckon Rooey (Riewoldt) should be in there ahead of Brown, and if were talking this decade Lloydy should be in there ahead of Browny too. I reckon id have Riccuito ahead of Aker in that list too.

Of the nominated people, this would be my order:
1- Vossy
2- Chris Judd
3- Nathan Buckley
4- James Hird
5- Simon Black
6- Adam Goodes
7- Matthew Scarlett
8- Ben Cousins
9- Jason Akermanis
10- Jonathen Brown

I would put Riccuito in before Jonathon Brown as well. Brown is one the best players in the comp these days, but he wasn't that much of a player until 2006/07, he had a lot of hype around him early in his career and it took a while for him to really show why he deserved that hype.

If Cousins didnt have his offf ield problems he would be number 1

Goodes to Good

Tough to pick.

Im gonna say Goodes, although deemed as inconsistent, he is a dual Brownlow winner as well as a premiship winner. Played as a Ruck, Midfielder and a Forward and just a class act to watch.
Mcloed unlucky to not get a gig in the top 10 although he didnt win a brownlow ever or premiership in the 2000's which is fair enough

Lloyd deserved to be in there more than Aker imho, so does every player mentioned in that last paragraph bar maybe one or two.

Aker - Brownlow medalist 2001, triple premiership winner with brisbane and just a freakshow. I remeber watching him in my younger days just in amazement. He deserves the spot

The legend that he is has won the afl player of the decade award. He was an amazing, influential player and was respected by all, well done Vossy!

quite a hard question when you think about it, all these players have contributed genuine excitement and skills to there club. All the players have been key players but i'd have to say Hirdy, it may just be, well because i spent the most time watching him, as an Essendon supporter, though, i honestly think if without him, we would not be in succession in the late 90's and early 00's, his genuine leadership qualities and his never say die spirit kept Essendon on its feet for 15 years.

Great now his ego is going to get even bigger.
