Are TV commentators, ex players & coaches and the media in general....over-analysing the game?

There's a new glossary of terms....such as forward formation & defensive structure.... now known as "rolling zones". Rovers & followers...now known as "sweepers & blockers"......and the loose man at centre half back is now known as "quarterback". Then there is clusters, frontal pressure, zonal defences and zonal attacks. Any more and I will need a footy dictionary to understand all this.
Football is a simple game and yet the so called experts are making it sound very complicated.
The so called experts...are pinching terms from international football codes such as American Football and soccer.....these terms don't really have the same relevance to our game.

What do you think?

Agree. Some commentators and media people just seem to rabble on and talk some absolute rubbish. It can be quite funny at times when these so called 'experts' embarrass themselves. But in saying that, some people within the media analyse the game quite well and I often enjoy hearing or reading what they have to say.

I gotta agree with ya there Panthers. But sometimes the media just gets too hungry for stories and will make up anything just to sell the story.

It wouldn't surprise me at all.

Terms like zonal defense and the switch has been around for ages.

Other terms like the Quarterback (they don't even play like a QB) is ridiculous and i have no idea why "experts" are trying to bring this lingo into the game. Its only going to over analyse and confuse, what is a very simple simple game.
