PostSubject: Ford Ranger Cup: New South Wales vs Queensland   Wed Feb 03, 2010 12:41 am

@ Sydney Cricket Ground, 2.15pm ADST, Wednesday February 3
Weather: Showers 21-23C

Huge game this as is every game at the end of any season in any sport. However this is especially the case with this season's FRC competition being one of the most closely contested seasons ever. New South Wales need to win to stay in touch at the top, a win could see them climb to second while a loss could leave them languishing at the bottom and virtually out of the race for the final. Meanwhile, Queensland can virtually assure their spot in the final with a win here. Showers are forecast to threaten the match.

Team news
New South Wales have called up Trent Copeland after his 10-wicket Shield debut. David Warner and Steve Smith (i can't believe i'm saying this) join the Australian squad for Friday's T20I. Josh Hazlewood returns to the side after his role in the Under-19 World Cup.

Queensland have received a massive boost welcoming Ben Laughlin back to the side after a long injury layoff. James Hopes also returns to the Bulls line-up after being overlooked for the T20I. Chris Lynn has been named in the squad for his debut. It will be interesting who misses out here. Batticciotto's recent performances have been less than impressive, Chris Swan is more than capable and Ben Cutting proved he can put on quick runs in the Big Bash but expensive bowling may cost him. I can see Swan missing out.

New South Wales squad Phillip Hughes, Phil Jaques, Simon Katich (capt), Ben Rohrer, Dominic Thornely, Moises Henriques, Grant Lambert, Daniel Smith (wk), Steve O'Keefe, Nathan Bracken, Josh Hazlewood, Trent Copeland.

Queensland squad James Hopes, Chris Hartley (wk), Lee Carseldine, Nathan Reardon, Craig Philipson, Glen Batticciotto, Chris Lynn, Chris Simpson (capt), Chris Swan, Ben Cutting, Ben Laughlin, Nathan Rimmington.

Gona be tough for NSW with two very good players out, but with the inclusion of katich back to the team im sure they'll put up a fight.

For Qld playing without Harris will be a tough ask but they have the bowlers to step up.

predicting qld but 3 wickets or 21 runs

pew pew pew

Hughes dismissed

PJ Hughes c Carseldine b Cutting 9 (34b 1x4 0x6) SR: 26.47

NSW 1/21 (9.0 overs)

NSW batting first obviously on a tough deck that's apparently nipping around a bit. A bit of rain in Sydney overnight livened it up. Lambert and Swan are 12th men for their respective sides.

NSW has increased their run rate a fair bit. Mostly thanks to a half-century from Phil Jacques

NSW 2/107 (28 overs)

Jacques 60 (72)
Henriques 20 (47)

Philipson has dropped Jaques twice! Better make up for it with his batting.

NSW got 0/46 from the powerplay

NSW 3/220 (44th over)

NSW finish on 4/293. Fantastic knock by Jaques of 171*. Some absolutely woeful bowling and fielding by qld, lets see if they can make up for it.

hmmmmmmm Queensland didn't capitalise and let New South Wales get away. New South Wales finish their 50 overs at 4/293. Pitch seems to have dried out to a belter. Phil Jaques got the second-highest score in ODD history with 171(n.o.) off 143 balls. Good thing for Queensland is we bat down to 8/9 with players like Simpson and Lynn down the tail who can hit big if needed. Gonna be an interesting chase.

i didn't think the bowling was that bad, i mean they kept the runs down early but that wicket just improved as the innings went on and Jaques just showed how to build an innings

Qld 5/195

require 99 runs off 52 balls

Philipson has batted well for 76 so far but he and Lynn need to motor. Simpson yet to bat so if we have himin the backpocket i reckon we're still a chance. But its advantage NSW at tis stage
