Depends on how you look at it, based on last year a success definitely, based on two months ago, a failure, I think we'll be better for the experience next year with almost the exact same side, I still have hope.

It be a success to me if we make the finals for consecutive seasons similar to Storm, Manly, Dragons & Broncos and not one hit wonders like Eels, Roosters and Penrith.

Thompson and Segs will go awesome for PNG. I also hope Tamou gets a crack for NZ, he deserves it.

Me too actually, even though he's shit, I'm pretty sure he'd be better then the other PNG wingers who were picked from the bush or the PNG comp.

Remember lads 5:15pm on Friday is the Cows v Sharks in the Under 20's. Hope they can win.

Should've sacked him and gone with Segeyaro.

The majority of the squad start pre season training on the 14th of November and the players involved in the 4 Nations start about a month later. Pretty sure that Matt Scott and JT will start their pre-season after the Christmas break after their heavy workload.

Already pumped for round 1 Sad

Thats awesome. I really like him, it's a shame he probably won't make the top 17 next year.

WHO'S IN

• Kane Linnett (Roosters): An outside back who can play on the wing or in the centres, Linnett will bring grand final experience to the Cowboys’ backline in 2012. The 22-year-old played his junior football with Port Kembla in the Illawarra competition and made his NRL debut for the Roosters in round 14 of the 2010 NRL season.

He was in the Roosters’ grand final squad against St George Illawarra and played 23 NRL games with the Sydney, including 10 this season.

• Luke Harlen (Northern Pride): After enjoying an outstanding season in the Intrust Super Cup, the front-rower rejoins the Cowboys after a two-season break.

He made five NRL appearances with the club in 2008 and 2009 after making his debut in the 2006 season with the Cronulla Sharks.

Harlen’s great form this season saw him rewarded with selection in the Queensland Residents team, which scored a convincing win against NSW Residents in the curtain-raiser to the third State of Origin game in Brisbane.

• Michael Parker-Walshe (NYC squad): The talented five-eighth enjoyed his best year in rugby league in 2011, playing a major role in the Cowboys’ first appearance in the Toyota Cup grand final.

The 20-year-old finished the season with a club record 24 tries, the second most in the under-20s competition, to go with 25 try assists.

The Cowboys staff think he will benefit greatly from being involved in the NRL squad on a full-time basis in 2012.

• Sam Hoare (NYC squad): A serious knee injury ended the young front-rower’s 2011 NYC season before the halfway mark, but he has been making good progress with his rehabilitation following reconstruction surgery.

A Rockhampton Brothers junior, Hoare will be one of the giants of North Queensland’s NRL squad thanks to his 193cm height.

Learning his trade alongside Kangaroos prop Matthew Scott should be a big help for the 20-year-old.

Note: NYC grand final squad members Michael Morgan, Jason Taumalolo, Wayne Ulugia and Moses Pangai also remain part of the NRL squad in 2012. Taumalolo and Ulugia will still be eligible for the under-20s.

WHO'S OUT

• Willie Tonga (Parramatta): The Test and Queensland centre leaves the Cowboys after being part of the club for the past three seasons. He played 60 games for the club and scored 34 tries.

• Leeson Ah Mau (St George Illawarra): After making his NRL debut for the Cowboys in round four of the 2010 season, the front-rower went on to play 33 games, including 15 this season.

• Will Tupou (Western Force Super 15): The centre/winger added nine games to his North Queensland record this season, taking his total in two seasons to 21.

• Shannon Gallant (out of contract): The diminutive fullback is expected to play for Berkeley Vale in the Illawarra competition next year. He played nine NRL games for the Cowboys.

• Isaak Ah Mau (out of contract): The 28-year-old front-rower is still negotiating with clubs for next year, with Super League and the Intrust Super Cup on his radar. He turned out in five games for North Queensland.

• Michael Bani (out of contract): After moving north from Manly midway through the 2009 season, the winger played 21 NRL matches for the Cowboys, including two this year. He is currently without a club for next season.

• Dylan Smith (out of contract): Signed on a one-year deal at the start of the season, the young front-rower played in the Intrust Super Cup for Mackay for much of the season. He may be with the Cutters in 2012.

Good to see Shannon Gallant likely to be playing down in Wollongong next year, will go watch him a few times I reckon.

A bit of a surprise he won it but he was probably our most consistent player this year. Did commit some stupid errors but at the end of the day he did more good things then bad.

Well done Ash Very Happy

We're gonna have 2 good feeder clubs next season. Milne in particular is a very decent player and doesn't look out of place in the NRL.

Happy with that draw.

Also happy that we're playing the Titans and Broncos away so I get to attend.

I welcome Lui to the club with open arms...it's about time we have depth in our playmaking game. Ray Thompson is good but he doesnt satisfy me.

Yea, I agree that bashing women is not cool...but I have faith in him. I find it hard on how one could ignore such a talent, it's too good to waste.

So our team for next year will be something like this then?

1. Bowen
2. Graham
3. Tate
4. Winterstein/Linnett
5. KFFL
6. JT
7. Lui
8. Scott
9. Payne
10. Tamou
11. T. Sims
12. Cooper
13. Johnson

14. Segeyaro
15. A. Sims
16. Bolton
17. Hall

18. Thompson
19. Taumalolo
20. Paterson
21. MPW

A range of other NYC/QLD cup players

At least that's how I think it'll start the season, given Payne was only given a one year deal, I wouldn't be surprised if his or the teams form was down if they dropped him and put Thompson to 9.
