ONE HD to show all Arsenal & Liverpool matches

Two of the biggest football teams in the world are coming to ONE with Arsenal and Liverpool games being shown every week as part of a brand new 3 hour program with each club that commences August 12.
Over the season, the 3 hour weekly program will show every Liverpool and Arsenal match from English Premier League, Carling Cup, FA Cup and other competition matches along with match previews, behind the scenes footage and other material directly from each club.
The 3 hour program will air Tuesday and Thursday each week with the Tuesday program at 10.00pm and Thursday in the morning or afternoon.
David White, general manager sport for TEN said: “These are two of the greatest football clubs in the world and we are delighted to partner with them in Australia to bring fans not only their games for free, but additional content produced by the clubs.”
With both teams challenging for the silverware, ONE is delighted to be bringing these games to all Australian viewers.

Football in Australia continues to grow. Although it is a rival network to SBS (the real home of Australian football), I am excited by this announcement.

Wow great news. Great effort by ONE HD to do this. They also got the Hopman Cup so everything's looking great for FTA TV.

Despite that, great news. More FTA broadcasting of football means more fans, more awareness of the game, etc. Brilliant stuff. I'm pretty happy they'll be showing Carling Cup and FA Cup games though, don't get to catch them often due to me not having the channels they're on (apart from the finals of course). Only downside is the timeslot, most people with work, school etc. probably won't stay up to watch all of it, but regardless, it's good to see it's on FTA television and there's the Thursday morning/afternoon broadcast anyway.

This is only beneficial to people who don't have Foxtel. To me I don't really think it's anything amazing. Looking at it from Foxtel's behalf, One HD probably offered a fair sum of $$$ for this package, so Foxtel is laughing as well. The EPL will never be back on free-to-air TV unless Channel 7 or 9 wanted it. It simply costs that much to get the rights these days.

Is anyone aware as to whether this will this clash with ONE's NFL/NBA coverage?

But it includes other stuff that Foxtel doesn't always show like Carling Cup and FA Cup games, some of those games are televised on Fox but not all, and the whole behind the scenes footage thing that should be good and to show replays of all the matches is great as sometimes the games on fox are on pretty bad times so you can just watch the replays if you miss em.

Foxtel could also lose a fair share of viewers aswell... with the Arsenal and Liverpool games being shown on FTA it allows the fans of those clubs to view their clubs matches for free (all be it 2 day delay) and as a result those fans who are "stuggling to get bye" will be more willing to get rid of Fox and their $80 a month bill because they know they can watch their club on FTA

However I'm not a massive fan of the EPL I'd assume Arsenal and Liverpool are two of the higher supported English clubs in Australia which = to more people who may be willing to give up fox

Which was the a major aim of the whole Freeview concept to begin with.

It's on at 10pm, its not going to clash...

The Hopman Cup is more likely to clash with the NBA/NFL and the Nascar Sprint Cup will clash with the NFL everyweek in the 2011/12 season

I also doubt that ONE would've given Foxtel money for this deal as its a different product to what FOX shows

It won't clash with the NFL or NBA at all. Those sports will take precedence as they're LIVE sports One HD shows whereas these Arsenal and Liverpool games are replays.

True about the Liverpool TV and Arsenal TV. But Foxtel has the FA Cup plus Chelsea TV and Manchester United TV on Setanta Sports, so they aren't losing out.

I think what One HD is doing is fantastic. But the 'REAL' fans will watch the games LIVE. Whether that be at a mates house or at a Pub/Casino it doesn't matter.

Also, Foxtel these days is only $50 a month. If people stop buying the Herald Sun (or whatever alternative Newspaper you have interstate), then you can easily afford Foxtel.

The replays of the Arsenal and Liverpool matches most definitely One HD would have had to pay $$$ to Foxtel for as Foxtel do have exclusive rights to the EPL in Australia. The way One HD is doing it though is clever, packaging the matches with their respective TV shows.

It's a different product though (ie not the same feed, from what I understand)... but I'd assume the FA would give Fox some compensation for this deal.

Also in regards too your other post.. I'd be right to assume that its mostly perants who pay the Foxtel bill in families and most would value the newspaper over pay tv. Even more so when what is shown on Fox is on FTA (even if its a couple days after
