PostSubject: National One Day Cup 2010/11   Sat Aug 14, 2010 5:14 am

For those who haven't heard, this season will see a new format introduced into the competition. Not a fan of the change, but I'll wait and see how it goes before making a judgement.
---
Key features of the new format include:

- 45 overs per team with split innings of 20 and 25 overs.
- A maximum of 12 overs by any one bowler.
- 10 wickets per team and 12 players per team - teams can bat any 11 of the 12 and field any 11 of the 12.
- A maximum of two bouncers per over.
- A new ball from each end at the start of the innings and no replacement new balls.
- No power plays
- Fielding restrictions: Overs 1-5 = 2 fielders outside the circle; 6-20 = 4 outside; 21-25 = 2 outside, 26-45 = 4 outside.

The new format will be played in all 31 matches of the national one-day cup, played between all States.

Match points will include one point for a first innings lead which is retained even if the side leading then eventually loses, and four points for a win, with five points if a team leads at the first innings and subsequently wins.

Not a fan of it as of yet. I guess I'll actually have to be at the game to judge whether its any good or not

Jack Clarke, Mark Taylor, Matthew Hayden, Greg Chappell, Shane Warne and Paul Marsh are the master minds.

45 overs and split innings? That's going to be shit imo. Having a split innings of 20 overs then 25 overs is ridiculous, you'd lose batting momentum. A maximum of 2 bouncers per over, well that shouldn't be an issue.

I actually don't mind the idea of the split innings, while you could lose batting momentum it could set up some exciting finishes. Not too sure why there are only 45 overs though, should be 50 with 25 each way.

As for the season itself, pretty pumped for it, really got into the domestic cricket last time (particularly the Big Bash) and it seems to be growing in quality every year. Bring it on!

Shocking Idea. I think something like 80% of the players are againts it.

The reason they cut it down to 45 overs is to compensate for the innings changes and to prevent the game from dragging out, as it would if it was still 50 overs per side.

Effectively IMO the games will turn out to be a 40 overs per side, with teams less willing to take risks at the start/end of their first innings and at the start of their second.

Also if a team falls behind after the first innings it could make for a very boring second innings - but thats the same for all cricket.

hmm let's see...
the players are against it (well a far majority anyway)
the fans are against it
the players who have played it at lower levels of cricket have come out and said it doesn't work and is more boring

surely that warrants enough for a NO

Just thinking fellas, should we use this thread as a Matchday thread as well? Or should we make threads for seperate matches?

And what about the Sheffield Shield?

Could have a thread, for the Ashes, for live talk for those sitting down watching the game. Then have a matchday thread where you talk about the match in general

I reckon separate threads for FRC and T20 Big Bash, but one main thread for Sheffield Shield...generally gets less chat seeing as it's not on TV while FRC and T20 are.

Just thinking all threads should have sone sort of generic

For example

V

Competition
FRC/Shield/T20

Time & Date

Preview of the Match
6-10 lines

Time & Date

Squads

Odds

Prediction

Would make the section look a bit more tidier than 2009-10

What was wrong with the matchday section last season? Discussion was good, all the threads were nice and tidy and Carlton did a great job putting them all up. I like what Sibs suggested, separate threads for the FRC and Big Bash with Sheffield Shield having its own thread.

We don't need individual match threads for the Sheffield Shield. Just looking back at last year it was generally just C10 posting the score updates and commenting on a players performance, which resulted in very little actual discussion of the match.

I'm not fussed either way but last year, it's just some threads only got about 5 posts for a match, which equals to just over a post a day.

The Ford Ranger Cup/T20 is different though as the coverage on TV allows for more people to post their thoughts as they've been able to see whats happened, not just go of a scorecard.

But as I said I'm not fussed.

EDIT: note to self - read the entire thread. DAMMIT sibs

Um for Sheffield Shield, should we make a Matchday thread and Discussion thread? Or one for both??

And if we make a thread for Matchday and Discussion should that go in the Matchday board? Or just the Cricket board?

IMO we should the one thread for Discussion and Matchday.
