Right,

I recently finished my contract with 3 for mobile internet and now im starting to look for a pre-paid option. I didnt mind 3 but i found sometimes the next work was just painfully slow.

So what i wanted to know is, what do you guys think is the best mobile internet provider and what providers i should steer clear from.

at this stage im leaning towards going with a pre-paid optus one.

thoughts?

From my phone usage history, 3 has been the best in terms of internet and web stuff. Optus was the worst, their internet is laggy and their myoptus stuff even costs just by browsing it. 3 meanwhile allows you to browse for free and has some good content on it.

Telstra is the clear leader in Broadband whether its ADSL or wireless. I would go to them everytime.

Telstra's mobile broadband is probably the best, but their ADSL services aren't that great and are designed to rip you off.

for those that may be interested for some strange reason.

i went with optus because they had good coverage and were cheaper than telstra. Telstra definately know how to charge bulk for interenet haha.

Well at the moment im loving it. It is much faster than my old 3 one i had and ive had no problems opening any pages etc.

Their ADSL services are the fastest and have the biggest range in the country. Their "ripping off" is purely because they spend so much more money in getting a broader range of reception instead of just throwing shit products out like optus and co.

For broadband it doesn't matter where you are or who your ISP is the closer you live to an exchange the faster your internet will be.

Telstra may service most of the country, but that doesn't make the automatically better. The country infrastructure was there before Telstra was privatized and since then it has largely forgotten about rural areas, which is why one of the main reasons they country independents chose the Labor Government was because the NBN which would greatly improve rural internet.

Value for money Telstra broandband plans are terrible, providers such as iinet and internode offer much better value for money data limits and speeds then telstra do, and to be fair optus do as well.

Telstra have always had an advantage over other ISPs as most people would have had Telstra as their telephone company so it made sense to them to bundle their internet with them.

I was paying 49.99 for 12 gigs of telstra net. I said I was going to switch providers, so they up me to 25. still exceed that so i say i'll switch and I get 50 gigs, for the same price, and when the letter comes in the mail, it's actually 100. So 100 gig for 49.99 when originally it was 12.

No way, iiNet I think would be the best, I know a fair few people that have had a lot of issues with Telstra, such as not getting the advertised speeds and slow peak speeds etc.

nah they've been proven to be the best by the blokes who run tests every year on the carriers.
