Surprised at the Doherty selection. He has a pretty bad first-class average.

As do all of our spinners.

Like he doesnt have a good record at that level.

Does this mean Hughes cannot be picked for any test?

1. Watson
2. Katich
3. Ponting
4. Clarke
5. Hussey
6. Ferguson
7. Haddin
8. Smith
9. Johnson
10. Harris
11. Hilfenhaus

Hauritz is not goin to win us the series, and we need to inject some youth into the side imo.
plus Harris has to play, be it by playing four quicks or like above, he is the form bowler in Australia, plus got 9 wickets at the Gabba last week.

Haurtiz doesn't need to win Australia the series... he's never been an attacking bowler. He's in the team to keep an end quiet, something that very few Australian seam bowlers have been doing.

Steve Smith will leak runs like theres no tomorrow.

Just my thoughts.

Should someone get injured they could pick someone outside the squad

imo it's fair enough that hughes isn't in the side, he hasn't had an ideal build up to the series and he's only averaged 15 odd in his last 5 matches.

If Katich is ruled out then Khawaja should be his replacement

I just don't see the point in chucking Smith into the biggest series in years, especially considering he didn't play in India (Test series). Possibly he (Smith) could feature later in the series if things aren't going our way, but Hauritz definitely deserves first crack. As for the squad, 17 players haha what a joke, England will be loving it. On the upside it could bring the best out of some players, although naming that many players really just goes to show how unsettled our XI is at this stage. And seeing both Khawaja and Ferguson in the squad really makes you wonder if North and/or Hussey will be in the XI!?

Also just say Katich is ruled out, how about moving Hussey up the order to open? As much as I want Katich in the XI... Huss opening the batting could just be the move that helps him regain some of that old form. Razz

Who would make your starting XI for the first test up at the Gabba?
Personally I would go

1. Watson
2. Katich
3. Ponting (c)
4. M.Hussey
5. Clarke
6. Ferguson/Khawaja depending on Shield form
7. Haddin
8. Hauritz
9. Johnson
10. Hilfenhaus
11. Bollinger

The Watson/Katich partnership must not be broken. North is too inconsistant for mine, don't get be wrong he's a good batsman, it's just he either gets 100 or scores about 10, and more often than not, it's around 10. Hauritz shouldn't be dropped, Warne never did to well in India so Hauritz should be forgiven.

Hauritz, are u serious... He bowled pies in the latest shield game, he's so out of form at the moment it's not funny. I'd rather go into the 1st test without a recognised spinner and go with 4 quick's (adding Ryan Harris), especially if we get a GABBA green top. We could always bowl clarke & maybe some of Katich's chinamen in the 2nd innings if needed.

Other than that I don't mind that line up at all.

The only thing with that is Clarke has a bad back and Katich a bad shoulder and a broken bowling hand

maybe, but i rate the other three higher atm.

but like i said, i think we should play four quickies at the Gabba.

and Svoerman, Hauritz might do that, but is as useless as tits on a bull, and that;s my opinion.

I wrote that before Hauitz started bowling pies in the last shield game

McDonald 1/7 off 10.

He should be in the team instead of a spinner to keep an end quiet.

Hussey made a duck, Waston 1 and Katich 6.

nah if you take anyone out it's gotta be North, Hussey was in good form in the one dayers and should be given another chance over someone who doesn't bat down the order, Khaweja should wait for Ponting to retire before coming in

Hauritz should be out, as someone put the other day, Julia Gillard puts more spin on her deliveries than he does, in place of Doherty if we choose to play a spinner, if not a 4 man pace attack, Steve Smith is heavily overrated

Katich, Watson, Ponting, Hussey, Clarke, North, Haddin, Johnson, Doherty, Hilfenhaus, Bollinger

doesn't look that pretty when looking at the last ashes, but they should get the job done

Hussey and North will probably play in the 1st test. I'd give them until Adelaide to prove themselves, if not than see you later.

Agree with most:

1) If one day form counts towards tests, at times guys like white, bevan, warner, bracken should've been there

2) north at least is still capable of batting well, and can bowl, and is only 31

3) Doherty i love but he's a 1 day bowler, SOK is the premier spinner in the country.

4) Smith deffos overrated.

I really think Clint McKay shouldve of been in the 17. Watching him bowl to Collingwood, he is troubling him with his off cutters. He also have beaten the edge of the bat a few times today.
