Looking forward to this one. Pretty confident that this time round will go better than the disaster of 2007.

The South Korea game will be massive as to who qualifies top of the group, we should get a minimum of 6 points.

Current Ranking (Top 5):

1. Australia (26)
2. Japan (29)
3. South Korea (40)
4. Iran (66)
5. Saudi Arabia (81)
---
Surely we will get off to a decent start this time around against India... our start couldn't have gotten much worse in 2007. At least we should play an exciting style of football under Holger. What does everyone reckon our strongest side is? I would like to see the following...

Schwarzer
Wilkshire - Neill - Ognenovski - Carney
----- Culina -----
Emerton --- Cahill --- Kewell
McDonald - Holman
Also wouldn't mind seeing some of the youngsters get a run against India.

Yeah id go that in the bigger games. Also agree for the Indian games we should give the younger and less experienced boys a run.

Yeah really looking forward to it. Aswell as watching the Socceroos a few of my fav players in World Football are running around in Keisuke Honda, Shinji Kagawa and of course United Legend Park Ji Sung.. Should be great viewing expect all 3 to have a massive impact on the cup.

Pretty keen for it. I don't want to see the younger lads get a run against India, rather in the friendly against UAE. We need our strongest side out to get the chemistry going and to get off to a good start to the tournament. More than happy for them to come off the bench, but not starting please. Our third-string side should defeat India but as we've learnt you can never rest on your laurels, if we slip up in the first game, we're screwed and that would be very embarassing for Australian football. And for me - one of my best mates is Indian and I've been talking it up to him so much, if we lost, I wouldn't hear the end of it. Same with Iran if we meet them in the second round, which is likely to occur.

Pretty keen to see Carney finally given a good shot to cement a place in the side with Chippers gone, I rate him pretty highly and he tends to score some great goals. Hopefully Scotty Mac can finally break his duck against the Indians who will be lucky to concede less than 10 goals in their 3 group games.

Shouldn't get cocky but expecting us to get past the group stage, should smash India, beat Bahrain without all too much trouble (although they could throw in an upset) and as for the South Korea game, that should be a cracker. Will enjoy seeing Park Ji-Sung in action - probably my favourite Asian player outside Australia. I believe they're the best team in Asia, but I also believe we can beat them. Can't wait!

Looking forward to the tournament. Last time around I was in the US when it was in '07 so this time I'll have more time to watch games. Australia is in a pretty tough group, a three horse race with Sth Korea and Bahrain but I expect them to progress. Japan definitely biggest competitors and I like their style of play, which was good to watch during the WC. Going to be a couple of late nights but well worth it.

South Korea are definitely the best side in Asia for mine. There side is full of technically gifted players and the football they play is very easy on the eye.

Look for Ki Sung-Yueng to dominate, reminds me of Xabi Alonso the way he plays, fantastic young talent and not long before he's at a big club (bigger than Celtic anyway). Just thought I'd get in there before everyone else starts singing his praises when he tears the Socceroos a new one Razz

Yeah looks about right but i think Kewell will either play in behind Cahill or Cahill will play behind Kewell, McKay on the left and Holman/Valeri in central.. Also probs North on the bench instead of Kruse/Kilkenny.. Don't know why i watched that game was boring as shit the ref just destroyed it. Foul after foul after foul. Mckay and Burns our best for sure aswell as Lucas.. Just another point he didn't do anything wrong but just not a fan of North, why does he get picked when he isn't even a standout in the A-league, shits me.

Yeah the game was pretty crap, Burns was defintely the standout though. And as mentioned, McKay did well. Thought Nathan Coe did relatively well also on debut.

One thing I remembered while watching the game - how much disgraceful diving and play-acting there are by some Asian teams, far out it's annoying to watch.

Opening game ended 2-0 to Uzbekistan, great goal from about 30 yards to open the scoring, then a terrible backpass let Djeparov (sp?) score a simple finish.

Watching the Qatar/Uzbekistan replay, great strike from Ahmedov.

The pitch looked good.

How often do cracking goals get tournaments going, always seems to happen. I also thought the field looked great as did the one for our warm up.. Another game at 11.00 QLD time tonight pretty sure.

China get up 2-0 over Kuwait.

Kuwait controlled the 1st half but were damaged by the sending off of one of their players for a disgracefully kicking one of the Chinese players.

That was a lovely free kick for China's 2nd goal.

Japan are so lucky...managed a 1-1 draw with Jordan after a 93rd minute equaliser, they didn't deserve a point really, they were pretty poor and Jordan held their own well.

In the other game, Syria beat Saudi Arabia 2-1...couple of shock results.
