| So often lambasted for leading greedy and superfluous lifestyles, many of the world's biggest sports names have answered the cause in the name of the Queensland flood relief appeal.
Socceroos maestro Tim Cahill made his plea clear both on and off the field at the AFC Asian Cup in Qatar, and foxsports.com.au also reported on Tuesday that England cricket star Kevin Pietersen had also come to the party.
Cahill's ebay auction, including flights to the UK and seats in Cahill's box at an Everton match as well as a plethora of signed memorabilia, is already sitting at $A25,000 with eight days of bidding still remaining.
Pietersen, meanwhile, showed that you don't have to be Australian to feel the effects of the national tragedy.
Pietersen is offering flights and accommodation as well as tickets to the Australia-England one-day international in Perth on February 6, in addition to his England shirt and a bat from the victorious Ashes Test series.
Tennis ace Andy Roddick, a frequent visitor to Queensland in his Australian Open preparations, has also stepped up to help a part of the world for which he has never been shy in his adoration.
Roddick made good on a promise to Australia's Sam Stosur that he would dig deep, contributing $A10,000 to the relief appeal.
The actions of some of sport's biggest names are not only set to make a financial impact in the region but they also lead to news of the appeal spreading far beyond Australia's shores.
Along the way, they are showing how such a devastating situation can transcend parochial sporting bias and socio-economic borders.
Closer to home the AFL has announced that it, along with the 18 clubs, will chip in $A500,000.
Meanwhile Queensland Reds brothers Saia and Anthony Faingaa have urged Super Rugby players across the nation to follow their lead by donating their first match payments of the 2011 season to the appeal.
And sporting fans across the country may yet see a positive out of all the tragedy, with Shane Warne and former England fast bowler Darren Gough in talks to have a Twenty20 "legends" game played at the MCG, an event they successfully staged in response to the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami.

Every bit counts good to see the sporting community getting involved. Timmy is a deadset legend. |

| Yeah it is just great to see everyone getting involved and helping out.
Saw the Timmy auction along with the Soceroos shirt on eBay, they will both go for heaps.
Quade Cooper and others have been going around helping out with the sandbags and helping out wherever needed and he is urging many others to get involved and help out.
Just great to see. |

| What I don't get is. Is that more people died in the Newcastle cyclone flood but it didn't get even have the media coverage that the Brisbane flash flood has.
No disrespect to any victims, but disrespect to the Media. |

| I don't know how many actually passed away in that, but what I do know is the death toll here is going to rise a lot. |

I don't think THTR has thought about these facts:
1. How much Australia as a whole have lost out in the agriculture sector. 2. How much damage has been done as compared to the Newcastle event. 3. The Brisbane flood was not a flash flood you idiot, the Brisbane river burst its banks. 4. Pretty much the economy has lost billions.
