Should have been done ages ago. Obviously Clarke will get the captaincy but I'm not sold on him being the leader. Hussey is also a contender but age and I guess past tries at him being captain didn't work.

Not sold on Clarke but he was the future captain as soon as he was inducted into the squad.

Ricky Ponting was our 2nd best Batsmen ever imo but his Field placements and Bowling changes were a bit lacking at times.
I also don't like his Demeanor when things don't go his way but my #1 issue was his accepting the Umpires decision whilst batting (fair enough) but argueing in the field. I don't want Clarke (poser) Maybe Haddin for a couple of years untill we get a better option.

He won us more with the bat than he lost us with his leadership, so it's still positive towards him just have a couple small issues that will be forgotten if he needs back up against those Indians and Kiwi's

Would have loved to see Watto get the big C only problem is he doesn't have enough experience in the leadership area.. Pretty much the only logical choices, i mean the likes of Huss, Kat are too old and Paine doesn't even play so who else. Good luck to both of them going forward i'm prepared to give Clarke a chance and see what happens.

Also in Punters press conference you could just see a weight lifted off him, he's going to explode back into the Punter of old i can feel it.

Watto getting Ricky's help would be ideal cause he's our best player*. If we put him in it maybe he'll turn into a machine in 3 or 4 years. Clarke should be dumped but who is next The usman is overated badly imo..but compared to those in the know "I know Nothing, nothink!"

*Watson that is

Mixed feelings on this.

I'm glad Ponting has stepped down as skipper to give Clarke experience as let's face it he will most likely be the captain for the next 5 or so years.

Also happy because I just loving watching Ponting play...any all time great for that matter.

But I'm not sure how Australian cricket is meant to get out of this state and build for the future whilst Ponting is still around. Surely it is in the best interest of Australian cricket to bring in a young gun like Khawaja, Lynn, Maddinson etc like they did in the mid 80's -90's with Taylor, Waugh etc

Ricky Ponting - will no doubt be missed, fantastic captain... brilliant record, in particular in ODI Cricket. Will go down as one of our great captains if not the greatest, pretty much had every ICC trophy in the cabinet at one stage under his captaincy. Razz

Michael Clarke - was always going to be next in line, definitely deserves first crack after Punter. He's copped some unfair criticism over the years imo, hopefully he can go about rebuilding this great team and in the process prove the doubters wrong.

Shane Watson - he just continues to go from strength to strength! Grin Absolutely stoked he's been named vice captain, it's definitely becoming a more and more important role as the game advances.
