PostSubject: 100m sprint- track question   Wed Aug 03, 2011 4:10 pm

Hi just wondering if anyone knows what a good time to run the 100m as a 17 year old?...I want to get into track and just wondering how far i got to go.

Managing issues with fitness and well-being during middle school...i used to run it in 17.5 to 18 seconds...but ive gotten down to 13.54s pb after solid gym and sprint training for nearly 12 months...is my pb a good time?. Id imagine anything under 12s for my age would be lightning?

Im gunna buy track shoes tomorrow and join an atheletics team soon...

i knew a 17 year old who ran around 11.65 and he got beaten at districts....its a tough life out there.

Me, i used to be the low 12's for 100m...

depends on your age....if you're a new 17 year old it's alright - if you're approaching 18, it's not great.

Realistically - if you want to be competitive, by the time you hit 18-19 you have to be consistently sub 12 seconds.

I was a sprinter during my school days and, while I focussed on the Sprint Hurdles mostly (14.1 PB for 100m) I was regularly running 11.4 in my 6th form year (16 y/o) and wasn't even close to the fastest at school.

Honestly - with good spike shoes, appropriate gear and training (which I didn't do) you need to be running mid 11's to even be worth the hassle...
