Great tie here between Australia and Switzerland. Hewitt is leading 2 sets to 1 in the deciding match against Wawrinka, and leads 3-2 in the 4th set. What's more, if the match goes to the fifth set, the light will fade, and they may have to return tomorrow. Wawrinka is world number 19, but is not quite in the same mould as Monfils, Verdasco, Simon and Del Potro. He was beaten in the first rubber by Tomic, and he is still getting over a niggling injury that he suffered at the US Open.

Pretty shattered for Ley Ley. Time is certainly running out for him if he wants to feature in the World Group again before his career is over. I honestly believe the match should have been suspended at the end of the fourth set... perhaps the result would have been different. Credit to Wawrinka, he's a quality player and he really did go for his shots against Hewitt, which ultimately proved the difference in the final two sets.

Unfortunately the only potent we have within two lengths of the straight is Tomic.

Blokes like Jason Kubler may step up one day but that will be 2-3 years down the track and Lleyton will rarely beat a a Top 20 player anymore that is usually flooded with those kind of players when your looking at the better Davis Cup Squads.

Tomic has beaten a couple of Top 20's recently..Soderling at Wimbledon was one and Stanislas Wawrinka the other day in the first rubber.

I was suprised that Paul Hanley our real only doubles specialist wasn't picked, even Carsten Ball who goes alright too, However our Doubles players in Hewitt and Guccione did beat Fed and Stan so not much more we can expect from them but I think consistently they won't be good enough to really aid us towards the World Group.

When the likes of Hewitt (up coming) and Rafter were in the Davis Cup with Phillipoussis as a handy back up and Wayne Arthurs who was a Top 50 player around that time as well with the Woody's as our Doubles players it certainly was a decent spot to be in but I wonder what happened, Aussie Tennis has seemingly on the decline in terms of depth, Though we haven't had better depth in the womens side of things for quite a long time, Stosur Top 10, Gajdosova Top 30 and Dokic roams around the Top 50 mark also Sally Peers who is only 19 who is a chance to blossom.

Hanley has dropped off a bit and is getting old and is now #48 in the doubles rankings.
