Former Adelaide Crows captain Mark Ricciuto was injured while riding his bicycle at Leawood Gardens on Saturday.

Ricciuto, 33, is believed to have collided with a car on Old Mount Barker Rd before 9.30am.

The ex-footballer's manager Justin Reid said the driver stopped and Ricciuto was taken to hospital, believed to be the Royal Adelaide, for treatment.

"He was wearing a helmet but he had a gash on his head and he had stitches," Mr Reid said.

Ricciuto underwent a precautionary scan of his head and neck.
