Sydney Roosters full-back Anthony Minichiello is to undergo ankle surgery on Thursday that will rule him out of the NRL for about 12 weeks. A specialist confirmed on Monday the former Australia star tore all three ligaments in his left ankle when he was injured in a tackle on Sunday, requiring immediate surgery.
“I'm definitely pissed off,” said Minichiello.
“It's the type of injury that can happen to anyone.
“I will have surgery this week ... And hopefully be back in 10 to 12 weeks.”
Minichiello suffered the injury early in Sunday's win over the Raiders at Canberra Stadium and, remarkably, played on long enough to score the opening try before being taken to hospital with a suspected broken ankle.
X-rays cleared him of any bone breaks although he has a complete separation of the two bones in his lower leg.
After three years tormented by neck and back complaints the former NSW and Test star has every right to be shattered by the latest setback.
The Roosters face a short turnaround with a clash against the Wests Tigers at the SFS on Friday night.

This is absolutely gutting, not just for Roosters fans but for fans of the game in general. One of the most entertaining players when fully fit, I had high hopes Mini would be back to his best this season, and to be sidelined for three months with an injury completely unrelated to those that have plagued him for the past few years must be heartbreaking. |

| =[ =[ =[ =[ =[ hes a vital attacking weapon for our side... He showed great signs in the trials and started to look like he had his confidence back in the first game of the season... i really feel for the guy... we've had to do without him for the past few seasons and it looks like that will be happening again... He showed real courage when he stayed on after suffering the injury even scoreing a try on one leg!!! Good Luck on your recovery Mini!!! |

| 1 of the best FB's in his prime, he may not sign another contract with the Roosters based on his past 3seasons. Will the Roosters focus now on Brett Kearney? Going to be good to see what happens now. |

| wow... i feel really sorry for him he has had the worst luck with injuries and everyone knows that he could be one of the best fullbacks in the league if he could stay on the field |
